Our commitment to safety and cleanliness

At Care UK, creating a safe, clean and comfortable environment is central to how we care for residents and support our colleagues.

We follow high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in every home to help prevent infections and support wellbeing.

Everyday cleanliness

Our housekeeping teams follow detailed cleaning schedules that reflect the latest national guidance and Care UK’s own infection prevention policies.

These include:

  • Cleaning of high-touch surfaces, communal spaces and resident rooms daily.
  • Regular deep cleaning of key areas to reduce the risk of infection.
  • Colour-coded equipment to prevent cross-contamination between different areas of the home.
  • Clear signage and hand sanitising stations at entrances, corridors and communal areas.

Well-trained teams

Every colleague receives training in infection prevention and control as part of their induction and updates regularly through online and in-person learning. Our dedicated IPC Champions in each home help embed safe working practices and raise awareness of hygiene standards.

A culture of prevention

From handwashing before meals to the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), everyone in our homes plays a role in infection prevention. We maintain ample supplies of PPE to support everyday care. The use of face masks is guided by individual risk assessments and the preferences of our residents. While PPE is no longer required in all situations, it remains an important part of our approach when needed, always with resident safety and wellbeing in mind. Our goal is to reduce the risk of all infections, not only COVID-19, but also norovirus, flu, and other seasonal illnesses.

Food hygiene and safety

Each Care UK home prepares fresh, nutritious meals on site. Our kitchens are regularly inspected and rated by local Environmental Health teams. We follow food hygiene standards closely and support residents who require special diets due to allergies or medical conditions.

Regular monitoring and audits

All homes carry out regular internal audits on cleanliness and infection control. These are supported by regional quality and regulatory assurance visits. Any actions needed are addressed quickly with support from our Quality, Regulatory Governance and IPC teams.

Reassurance for families

Whether you’re visiting a loved one or considering Care UK for yourself or a relative, you can be confident that safety and cleanliness are at the heart of how we care. If you have any questions, please speak to the Home Manager. We are always happy to talk through our approach and what to expect in each home.
